Fret buzz!
So I restrung my Revenger-7 for the first time in a year as I finally ordered proper guage strings for it from juststrings.com (there's nothing decent locally).
The problem is that now all strings buzz on the first few frets, the D-string being the worst, as it buzzes when open and not fretted at all. They're all fine after about the 4th fret, but everything other than the low-B, E, and maybe A are practically unusable for those first few frets. Is this a truss rod fixable thing, a bridge adjustment thing, or is this a new/shimmed nut thing? ![]() This isn't my main guitar, but I plan on playing it from time to time as I still like the feel of the neck, and love some sounds it gets. |

Nut is cut too low, my H-207 is like that ,I have to keep the action above a certain point because the strings are like a hair width above the frets, lol.
You can kinda fix it until you get a new nut by raising the action and making the neck more bowed. |

Its a trussrod thing. i had the same thing happen on my old RG7620 about 4 years ago.

Yeah, actually, that sounds about right, as it's always had super-low action on those frets ![]() |

Truss rod adjustments generally don't have much effect in the first few frets (or the last few frets). Did you change string gauges?

If the neck is too tight then it will make the neck bend backwards, causing the first few frets to be lower (relatively speaking) than the rest of the neck. If the nut was cut right then all the strings would buzz when played open. The strings that you put on don't have as much tension to counter-act the truss rod as the old ones did. You need to loosen the truss rod a bit (or have it done). You may also want to have the nut height checked. If it were me I would have the guitar setup since the intonation also changes with string gauge.
