Converting bolt-on to set neck?

anyone ever tried doing this?

i´m thinking about how people love the sound of set necks over bolt-ons, and i was thinking it has to be possible to just glue it up? :P

Probably not dude. Set necks use joints (dovetails if im not mistaken) which gives a bigger surface area (how much area is actually being glued) and hold from the angle used. Dont think you would be able to just glue it down to the neck pocket, nor would I recommend it.

I'm sure it's possible, seeing as how wood glue is stringer then wood; but as you said, it's the size of the joint that makes the difference, so there'd be ver little point in doing it.

You've got your head down
You've got your eyes closed
You look so pitiful now

Your body encrusted with ash
Breath heavy with toxins
Hair singed and matted
Clothes frayed and burnt

You are left with nothing

You could always glue it, then bolt it back together before the glue dries, making it a kind of bolt/set neck hybrid.

Not sure how much effect it would have on the sound, but I suppose it would join the body and neck more solidly.

like Aaron said, but then if you can take the screws out fill the holes and sand don the hump and make it more like a setneck... not sure if this is wise but its an idea.

i remember reading an article with Ritchie Blackmore that stated he used to glue (as well as bolt it on) all the necks on his strats because he believed they sounded better that way.

hmm, interesting... i would never do it though, but the thought is kinda interesting :P

so yeah, basically, it wouldn´t do a helluvalot, as the surface are would still be smaller... i´d love a huuuge bolt-on sometime :P

a bolt-thru... like the neck goes all the way down to the bridge pickup cavity, and there´s only a bridge pickup... that would be badacious!

It's possible to do, but requires sometimes lots of work depends from neck pocket construction.
