Wipe it on thick, then wipe off the excess and let it dry. Don't leave a thick coat on there to dry, as it will take too long and will usually end up gummy and sticky. Fifteen coats seems a little excessive to me. You could probably get away with using fewer coats and then finishing off with gun stock wax to get a silky-smooth finish that's probably more durable than oil alone.

im using Formby's traditional tung oil finish (low gloss) its been three coats and looks to need about two or three i don't want to much shine just something to protect it and have the guitar have a good tone.
