Make sure you post clips! I think I'll have a 7420 in my hands this afternoon (if the seller ever gets back to me...) and the pickups will definitely have to go. I've never had a guitar with active pickups, and I think it may be time to give 'em a go

It's not that hard, because if the pickups are a tight fit, it's only by a little bit. Plus the corners are rounded, so you can use a Dremel with the sanding drum attachment. I did a J-Custom Blackout install in my hotel room at NAMM, and it was pretty straight forward. I just had to clean some paint around the four corners. That J-Custom was routed extremely tight, even for an uncovered passive pickup. But then again, that's part of what makes those J-Customs so awesome.

The Blackout isn't any deeper than a passive pickup like our 59-7, but the depth of the 59-7 is from the screw pole pieces, whereas the Blackout is deeper all the way around. But no different than installing an EMG into some smaller 6-string humbucker routes.

Didn't have a chance to pull them out yet. Frank told me that the neck pickup was a straight install, but the bridge pickup had some foam put under it. Not sure how deep the pickup cavities are on a 8127 or similar J-Custom are however compared to a S7420.

Ok, I'm getting the Blackouts.
I really can't have microphonic feedback ruining my solo's anymore.

Trust your ears.

In life and music, what is is but that doesn't always mean it's what it should. Change, is in our hands.
