X2n-7 vs. invader-7
how do these two stack up against each other. what are the differences and does one have anything over the other?

They're polar opposites... the X2N7 is very bright and present, the Invader is very dark and thick sounding. The only similarity is that they're both high output.
In my opinion, the X2N7 can be be too bright for some guitars, and the Invader can be not bright enough for some. Either will sound good in your 1527, but, speaking from experience, the Invader will probably react better with your Line 6 amp, since they tend to already be pretty bright sounding. With a tube amp that already a thicker tone, like a Recto or Thermion, the X2N7 would balance out better. |

![]() The X2N can be pretty bright but I find it pretty well balanced if you up the bass and mids just a tad with a bright setup. Its a really awesome pickup.
I'm assuming he's going to want to mass produce these rack pies, and why not? I love racks, I love pies, so put them together and you have pie covered titties. - JJ

Yeah definately polar opposites. I prefer the X2N, but im a bright PU type guy and I like alot of clarity. So im biased that way. However I know alot of guys that like to use the invader to round out bright guitars. I would only give this advice, its very easy to round out an X2N's brightness. Its much harder to brighten up an invader IMO.
Try to exclude the possibility of suffering which the order of nature and the existence of free-wills involve, and you find that you have excluded life itself.

also note, my X2N sounds much better through my Ashdown (hot-rod marshall...) than my Livewire metal (has more highs and mids than invader and twice as hot) but the opposite is true for my Randall, so it also depends on the amp as well as the axe.

Definitely the Invader, in the right guitar it's the most brutal pickup ever IMO. I love it. The key is putting it in a very bright guitar. I've never heard one sounding good in an Ibanez or anything of the sort. The vast majority of bright guitars I've had them in sounded amazing. Amps are key too. The Invader seems to get along with VHTs, ENGLs, and Marshalls far better than Mesas and Peaveys.
That said the X2N is pretty cool too, but I wasn't a big fan of the treble character a whole lot - and I think it has almost too much output. As with the Invader though, in the right guitar/amp it can sound killer. The Invader just has the coolest mid-range character of any pickup I've ever played. It growls, roars, and plunders villages. If you put it in an Ibanez or a dark guitar, expect that it could get muddy fast. |
