![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | WTF! the Blaze bridge owns in my 727! so, out of sheer boredom, i decided to throw a Dimarzio Blaze bridge i had lying around into my Carvin 727... and it sounds fucking amazing! .i know, i know, i threw a boring old Blaze into a Carvin... yipee, big deal right? but i'm just shocked at how great it sounds. never in a million years would i expect a Blaze to work this well in this guitar. if you're strictly going by the numbers and the inherent sound of this pickup, it should be a disaster in a 5 peice koa/ maple necked, mahogany bodied, 3/4" maple topped, maple fretboarded, stainless steel fretted Carvin 727. i've used the Blaze in 4 different guitars, each with different wood combos in the past and basically got a meh, it's alright reaction from it. in my Kramer Striker 7 it was a bright, piercing scratchy mess. in my Agile Interceptor it was just cold and dead. the Blaze always seemed to have this harsh, scratchy high end i could never get along with. i've had Dimarzio D Activators in my 727 for about a year now, and have no complaints, i really dig 'em , especially the neck version, as it has this really cool single coil like poppiness to it that reminds me alot of my favorite 6er neck pickup, the Dimarzio Humbucker From Hell. so anyway, for my own amusement, i figured i'd give the blaze another chance to disapoint me... and much to my surprise, it didn't! it's still bright and articulate, but yielded a warm, rich P.A.F. vibe as well. it really reminds me of a hotter Gibson 498T in this guitar. and even with the DA7s higher output, the Blaze still matches up nicely with it. i just absolutely love this pickup right now.i guess the moral of this thread is don't always go by the numbers, and experiment from time to time! honestly, this pickup should NOT work in this guitar... but it does, amazingly well i might add. i'm sure i'll get a few "this thread is worthless without pics" posts , so here you go! it doesn't look any different after the pickup swap ![]() |

I'm a huge fan of the Blaze bridge in, well, just about everything, so I'm not suprised at all that it sounds good in a guitar as bitchin' as yours. ![]() :: chrisquigley.com :: Sevenstring Registry :: Share Your Music :: Share Your Patches :: Sevenstring.org MySpace chmod +ax /bin/laden |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I've always liked the sound Blazes had in mahogany more than basswood, and also direct mounted as opposed to pickguard mounted (does make a difference). I find the Blaze is a really cool pickup, the scooped quality is not a problem for me, it's the hi-fi treble response that can be obnoxious sometimes, with a guitar like that Ed, I'm not surprised at all. The Blaze just needs character to fuse with in order to sound it's best. I always thought a Universe would be better suited with Evolutions and Blazes to be put in their mahogany guitars like the Sabers. |
