![]() | I'm sure this has been brought up several times before but... I just got an Ibanez RG1527 RB 2006 model... and the stock pickups are garbage. I need to replace these pickups ASAP and could go for some advice on what pickups to get. I play Metal (MySpace.com - Only After Dusk - Halifax, CA - Metal / Rock / Acoustic - www.myspace.com/onlyafterdusk )and i'm looking for a ridiculous hot crunch from the bridge pick up and a sweet ownage tone from the neck. I was thinking about getting the emg 707's but apparently routering hast to be done to even fit the pickups in the guitar and also a hole would have to be created for the battery... Do you think its worth spending the extra money to have all this work done or just go with passive pickups? Also if i did choose passive pickups what ones would be the best? I was thinking air norton 7 for the neck as i've always loved the tone that Jani liimatainen got from them. But for the bridge I've heard the blaze customs are pretty hot? Or maybe Dimarzio inst even the way for 7 strings? I like them in my Ibanez RG2570 but maybe for 7 strings its totally different? Seymour Duncan? Bareknuckle? Dimarzio? EMG? More? - Justin |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This has actually been brought up about 14 billion times. ![]() Bridge Passive: X2N7, EVO7, D Activator 7, Blaze Custom (very good lead sound), D Sonic 7 (great John Pettrucci sound) Active: Seymour Duncan Blackout 7's With the blackouts you get active sounds but you don't have to mod your guitar. The Blaze Custom and the DS7 are my favourites. EDIT: I find that the Blaze Custom and Blaze Neck work very well together. The Blaze Neck has a great modern sound for a neck pickup. I also like the Air Norton 7 but it's a little too vintage sounding but it does work well in my J. Custom. |

![]() | Hmmm... blaze and blaze eh. The blaze custom bridge is showin as 6 trebel 7 mid 7 bass You think that would have enough to rip through people with good jugg/crush ratio? |

I play a lot of Fear Factory type stuff but it might be just a little bit too loose sounding. Imagine a non-fuzzy more grindy Obsolete tone and you're close. Someone has as Blaze Custom test recording kicking around here. I'll try and find it for you.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Got it! ![]() Enjoy: Blaze Custom ate my flesh! EDIT: Remember that both of us use PODxt Live's and that allows almost unlimited tone shaping compared to a normal amp. |

![]() | Cool, yea thanks ... that definitely does have some crunch to it... Right now unfortunately all i have to play through it a cube 30. So hopefully i get something in the future that will do justice for the guitars I'm playing with. Happen to have any sound clips of the blaze bridge ? |

It sits well at the base of the mix and fills the mix really well in a rhythm context. I'd use the DS7 instead of the Blaze Bridge. I just prefer the sound.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | A lot of people say that the EVO 7 is a great all round pickup but I've never used one. I haven't heard any really good things about the X2N 7. Some say that the D Activator 7 is kinda lifeless or something, but I'm still going to get a pair for my next guitar. |
