Help me choose a new soldering iron!

I'M tired of the radio shack shit! I don't really know much about soldering irons(in fact nothing). So, a little help would be sweet! I had a 40w iron and that worked until after 2 repickups the head went bad. I"m looking at Wellers and what would be good for rewiring? I don't see any 40w adjustable ones only 50w and above. Is it the temperature or the wattage that counts? The 50w can be set as low as 350 f. Any help would be sweet.

I have an ancient weller, they're pretty good.

Higher power just means that you have to be more careful with sensitive electronics.

If I were to spend that much money I'd put down $20 for a Cold Heat soldering tool - ThinkGeek :: Cold Heat Soldering Tool - just for the convenience.

It's nice to have a normal pencil style one, only has to be 15-25 watts. But it's ALSO nice to have one of those 100w guns. The high watt guns are good for doing volume pots on guitars where the smaller wattage irons take a while to melt the solder and tend to heat the pot up as well, with the gun you can melt the solder quickly and get it done.

You shake your ass but you're already dead.

I'm also going to recommend a Weller. You'll never have to buy a new iron again.

I have had a 20/40W Radio Shack soldering iron for like 7 years so far - everything works perfectly.
