New pickup debate/Duncan blackout question?

I have an Ibanez RG7420.

I would really like to put actives in this beast. I was thinking about throwing some 707's in, but I was worried about body routing. Then someone here told me about the Duncan Direct Replacement Blackouts. I haven't tried blackouts yet, but I have heard good things. I am definitely willing to give them a shot.

I was wondering if anyone else put these in their Ibanez guitar. I have never seen active pickups without pickup rings, so I am curious how it would look. Does anyone have any pics of this?

The only person I know who has installed them was Nick in Bernie Rico Vixen 7:

From this thread: http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/pic...s-arrived.html

First thing to say is that Nick's guitar isn't a great example as his uses pickup rings - but if you read through that thread you'll see that Frank Falbo (who works for Seymour Duncan) says that the tabs and shape of the whole pickup are designed to fit inside the Ibanez route specifically. So it will look awesome.

I'm actually about to order a set for my Ibanez just now.

Yeah I saw those picks, but what Frank said is interesting. Can you get these online anywhere? I think I found them on Ebay somewhere yesterday, but that is about it.

My dealer that is capable of doing this overcharges by about $20-$30. On the positive side, they install everything for free. I worry when it comes to stuff like this because this dealer once tried to convince me that the 81-7 and 707 were the same exact pickup. They do a pretty good job installing, but competency is questionable.

RG7's and S7's to me are totally begging for Blackouts. The rounded tabs on the Blackouts match the tabs on those routes, and the rounded corners too.

I'm an Ibanez nut. I own about 40 guitars, and 30 or so are Japanese Ibanez or Ibanez parts guitars. You'd better believe I was thinking about those Ibanez 7's when we spec'd out those covers.

you h ave to get EMG7 pickup rings custom made, as they arent designed to have pickup rings
havent seen the blackouts, but i've seen emg 6ers without rings, and it sort of messes up the cleancut look of em. i suspect it would look better with the blackouts, as they look like theyd be a super snug fit

Yeah hopefully not too snug. I've said it before but it seems possible that if there's a big drip or sag of thick paint built up in the cavity, it may have to be dremelled away. But everything I've seen so far is plenty large enough to fit the Blackouts. (Ibanez, Schecter, Dean, and others)

I'm considering putting them in mine.
