So was there ever a consensu on which Duncan works best in a 7620?

Yes I'm talking about the stock bridge pickup that was in there.

Yeah, that's a New7. The neck is stamped N2, the bridge is stamped B2.

And, assuming they ARE the same pickups that were originally wound for the CST, they sound way better in mahogany than basswood. They're also basically the same as the Dimarzio/IBZ pickups in prestiges today, save that they're 6's, not 7's...

They're nice enough pickups, but the bridge in particular really isn't voiced for basswood...
