![]() ![]() | Why don't my frets stay shiny? I was at band practice yesterday (playing bass) and I noticed that the frets on the lead guitarist's razorback were really shiny and smooth, and he has had that guitar longer than I have had my 6 string or 7 string RGs. And the same with the other guitarist's Schecter Hellraiser. I've steel wooled my frets a few times before (usually when restringing), but they don't stay shiny or smooth for very long. And I certainly don't play my guitars as much as those guys do. Is there just something up with my frets? Is it the way I polish them? Or is it because I have sweaty hands? |

![]() ![]() ![]() | This may be the culprit. If you've ever seen Elixir strings, that's what their whole business is based on. However, I don't forsee your frets oxidizing. ![]() What a Djentleman! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | 1) Have they had stainless steel frets put on the guitars? 2) Do they wipe down the fretboard after playing, and you don't? 3) Have you asked them how many times/how often they clean their frets? 4) Do you wash your hands before playing? Do they? Its really hard to answer this question, cuz there's many variables involved. ![]() Metal... Nuff Said!! 2) I don't think so 3) they dont clean their frets 4) Most of the time I don't wash my hands, but they don't either. The only difference is that their guitars aren't as old as mine(but I clean my frets) and that my hands are usually sweaty. | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Schecters frets are pretty good material. I like their fretwire. But the real culprit is your body's natural oil and sweat. Everyone puts out different stuff from their hands. Not washing your hands before just magnifies the problem, but it's a combination of fretwire alloy and your hands. |
