Its definately way more blazy than anything else, but still fairly different. If you like the blaze though, id say this is easily as close as your going to get for a 6, and its a pretty damn good pickup id say. just the blaze isnt really my thing, neither is this

Paf pro and norton both freaking rock too. if you like those, look into the fred, makes an excellent neck pickup, albeit a wee bit high output. depends on what you got in the bridge too. you can always lower it, it doesnt seem to lose much tonally if you do

Never played it in mahogany, but the SS SHOULD be a good match. Also, I'm not sure how the 7 string version compares to the six, but the Evo7 slays in mahogany - ask Nick, he owns the guitar I used to own with an Evo7, if he hasn't sold it yet.

For the Norton, dude, I blame Jemsite. When I replaced the pickups on my 7620 way back in the day, it never even occured to me to try anything other than an Air Norton and a Tone Zone, partly because at the time your only other options were the PAF, Blaze neck and bridge, and Blaze Custom, and partly because 99% of Jemsite had that combo in all of their guitars.

I've had a pair of Freds in an RG550 before, with an HS2 in the middle.
OMG, What a cool combo!!! Through my old ADA rack, this setup fit every need, and every dynamic.

If the neck is too hot for you, just lower it a bit.

i have to agree with Zimbloth that the SS and Blaze while similar in tone are completely different. i've used both pickups in basswood, the SS is brighter, colder, and way too tight sounding (for my tastes), the Blaze is pretty bright as well but has a looser low end and definitely has a warmer vibe especially on the lower strings.

and the Norton (not Air Norton!) is just criminally overlooked, amazing bridge pickup that works well with tons of different neck pickups, especially the Humbucker From Hell.
the FRED is awesome in the bridge as well, but doesn't handle high gain as well as the Norton. The Norton to me is just a way more well rounded version of the FRED.

Yeah man, I'm glad other people agree w/ me and I'm not crazy The Blaze and SS are both cool but very different. And Hell yeah, the Norton rules. Criminally overlooked is the perfect way to put it ;agreed:

, although slightly off-topic, on the HB From Hell - I had one awhile back in an older paduak Washburn N4 - one of the best neck HB's ever, IMHO

Completely off-topic: leaving your mouse hovering over zimbloth's reputation points reveals the alternate text, "Zimbloth can play Erotomania with his toes"
