Question Ebony Fingerboards as opposed to Rosewood...

Does anyone else here notice a real harsh "quack" or "whining" upper-mid tonality with ebony fingerboards? It's a real pain in the butt for me to EQ them properly. I've had two guitars with this scenario: an older Washburn N4 with paduak body and neck, and my current Ed Roman Quicksilver, with black korina body and maple neck. Both have ebony fingerboards, and in both cases, I encounter this issue. I love the hardness and smoothness of ebony, but I am beginning to think maybe I don't hate rosewood fingerboards as much as I thought I did after playing my bass player's Schecter C-1 Classic yesterday.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

See, you have an Ed Roman guitar. That's your problem right there.

Sadly, that's a distinct possibility.

It's all about mating the right body to the right fretboard, and then using it in the right application. The ebony board helped give my old CST some much-needed attack, compared to my recollections of my old 2027 (true, the pickups that were in it much of the time I owned that 2027 really didn't help, especialyl that TZ7 in the bridge).

Meanwhile, if anything maple can have a potentially MORE objectional attack, especially finished maple, where you get this massive clangy attack as the string snaps against the board... ...and in a stratocaster I fucking LOVE that sound.

It's a unique "mojo"

...I wondered how long it would take someone to make that observation...suffice it to say, my next outing will most likely be a Carvin, probably a DC727 'cause I don't have a 7 yet...

Oddly enough, in the case of my older paduak neck and bodied N4, when I put the 6'er Tone Zone in the bridge, it seemed to disappear Never understood what happened there...

In any case, I absolutely love the Jazz/JB combo in my bass player's C-1 Classic and want them for my axe now.

The 6-string TZ is a great pickup. It doesn't have that real sharp, quaky attack. Smooth.

Probably just needs the right pickup to match with it.

That old troll loves Korina for some reason. In my experience, it is a pretty useless for anything but classic rock.

You realize my Jr 90 is made out of Black Limba, right Dave? My guitar with humbuckers would be insanely good... I don't think it's the body wood that is the problem here.

Yeah, but I wouldn't play metal on your Jr 90, either. You can't get that quack/spank out of it. It's a matter of application. That guitar is awesome for the blues/rock thing, but I would never try to play metal on it.

i've actually heard some decent things about his guitar, but i cant believe it. hes just such an ass lol.
after i emailed him, he changed his page on ibanez, which said something to the tea of "if youre playing an ibanez, you like flatneck guitars and probably grew up playing cheap guitars, and wouldnt know a good guitar with a round neck if you saw one, cause youre stupid".
i added the youre stupid, cause its implicit, but the rest was literally what he said

@ noodles, i've heard a pretty shreddy kelly clone made of Korina, and it was really good. i typically think the same thing as you though. i associate it with old v's and stuff
