![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I just put a pair of blackouts in a new guitar I bought, absolutely magical pickups. At first I was like "man these sound WEIRD", which they do at first ,but once your ears adjust and you change the settings on your amp to compensate...man.... 1000x better than EMGS! Absolutely remarkable lead tones in both the bridge and neck, terrific on the low strings, very hi-fi but organic at the same time. Not compressed or thin sounding at all. I will never play an EMG again. Much quieter, HUGE output but very clean and warm. Don't put the pickups too close to the strings like an EMG. Better dynamics. Just terrific. I'll post a real review later when the honeymoon period is over and I'm not half asleep. |

Please note if you do the comparison with EMGs on the same guitar, the same used strings, the same pickup height, etc. to assure it is fair duel. I have one EMG 81-7 on a mahogany w/ maple neck guitar and i would be very interested how this compare to the new SD blackout. Also would be relevant that you tell us your kind of music style you are aimed to. You know, often when one tone works great for some genre/artist, may not be suitable for other one. I personally play futuristic rhythm metal ala Meshuggah/Fear Factory/Sybreed, etc. Audio clip comparisons would be killer, but i understand its a lot of work. | |
