Absolutely remarkable lead tones in both the bridge and neck, terrific on the low strings, very hi-fi but organic at the same time. Not compressed or thin sounding at all.

I will never play an EMG again. Much quieter, HUGE output but very clean and warm. Don't put the pickups too close to the strings like an EMG. Better dynamics. Just terrific. I'll post a real review later when the honeymoon period is over and I'm not half asleep.
Looking forward to the review. I've been gassing for a Schecter Loomis lately, but I don't like EMG's...

I'll just say quickly, the guitar I put the Blackouts in came with stock 81/85 so I did do a direct comparison. The 85 in the neck was fine, the 81 in the bridge was brittle and thin in comparison to the huge sound of the blackouts. Also, the blackout neck model in the neck destroys the 85, the best articulation ever but so musical and punchy.

I'm going to test putting the blackout neck in the bridge as well, as thats probably more along the lines of a 707 (alnico).

Is it too late to order the Blackout 7's in standard (passive) sizing? Or did they sell all of them? I was debating trying them out in the 727 perhaps and saving the BKPs for the Sherman.

the 707's don't sound bad in the Loomis (it's a bright guitar),
but I am interested in checking one out in the bridge of my Loomis.
I'd like a bit of a thicker lead tone than what the 707 gives.

Can I be the devil on your shoulder?

The Blackouts definitely have a thicker lead tone. In the ads for blackouts when they talk about "more bass, more mids, more tone, blah blah", that's not just sales speak. It really does seem like they're putting out an insanely wide frequency range, really balanced - sounds huge but crazy articulate at the same time.

...and that's the bridge model. The neck model in the bridge is supposedly more like the 707.

I do love the set of Blackouts in my SLSMG 6 string. They spank the EMGs that were in there before, the lead sound I get out of that thing is unbelievable now. I'm going to start hunting eBay for the EMG sized Blackout 7 to put in my COW.
