![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Few questions. 1) How bright does maple neck - maple fretboard really sound? 2) What is the huge difference between a recessed TOM and a regular TOM bridge? Is the action gonna be screwed? 3) With EMG's in a maple-maple would it be over the top bright? 4) If I got a locking nut in place of a regular nut, what would be the effect to the sound? Would it work well with the TOM bridge? ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | A) Its not noticeably brighter to me compared to rosewood or ebony (IMO) B) A regular TOM needs to have the neck angled in the pocket to make sure the strings are parallel to the fretboard. Go play a Les Paul or Hellraiser. A recessed TOM is recessed so that its overall height is very close to the height of the fretboard (a little higher) and this eliminates the need for the neck to be angled. C) N/A - never used EMGs in 7s with maple/maple. D) Why would you get a locking nut for a TOM? Better off getting locking tuners. |

The only thing I'd add is that in my experience it goes, in order of 'brightness' rosewood>maple>ebony. Its less the 'brightness' that people notice with maple but more the 'snap' and the initial transients from a maple board are sharper. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I do have a Hellraiser, that's why i was wondering--I saw pictures of recessed TOM's and was wondering. Locking tuners, understood. Any clue how much they run? (replacing Agile ones). (Locking nut was to switch around string gauges on the fly without permanently fucking my nut up) I know EMG's are bright by nature, so I was thinking...maple (bright) + maple (bright) + EMG (bright) = holy bright? ![]() |

Also if the neck wasnt made to include it how were you planning on attaching the locking nut? Why exactly do you need locking nuts/tuners again? Do you stretch your strings properly? Im sure its not your picking hand as I played a Hellraiser and that thing kept in tune. |

![]() ![]() | If you're worried about the nut, get it cut or buy another nut and get it custom cut to your preferences, not too expensive, definately less than getting a locknut installed, plus you'd need fine tuners on the bridge because when you clamp it down, the strings go slightly sharp. I'm assuming he's going to want to mass produce these rack pies, and why not? I love racks, I love pies, so put them together and you have pie covered titties. - JJ Don't thank me, thank the wombat rapist. - Jamie Mah Deviantart Myspace The Many Faces of Egoraptor |
