So i was wrong after all

I've never come across pickups that haven't got 4 conductors.
Needless to say i haven't tried millions of them.

ok. so all humbuckers have 4 conducters, per set. Just in some, instead of leaving the hot of one and ground of the other in the mix, they cut em way back in the pickup, and connect em there. imagine in a wiring diagram from SD or dimarzio where it has you solder the white and black (dimarzio) or i think its red and green (SD) wires together. That. except they do it inside the pickup.

As far as the JB and Jazz,
my brother had a pair (6ers) with his stock ibz single in a supermodified 350dx. They were rocking, the only thing we noticed was that the JB could get a little too.... spongy... if you were playing power chords, and he doesnt even play in drop d.
But if you like high output pups, thats a solid set for sure

I'd say the Jazz is a great neck choice, but the Custom, like Mike says, might be better for the bridge. Clearer attack, not so fizzy, with lots of power and balls.

Quicksilver689 will become famous soon enough
Yes - all those SD models are either 4-conductor, or are available as 4-conductor models, so you will be good to go!

FWIW, I now have DiMarzio A.N. and D-Sonic in my 6-string and am considering moving to a SD Jazz neck and JB bridge...I loved the tone of the DiMarzios when I first got them, but I now find myself wanting more organic character. Ironically, I *had* SD's in the guitar originally, although they were the wrong ones compared to what I had ordered (Ed Roman Quicksilver custom order gone bad...long story...)...

The SD JB 6er is to die for.

The 7... not so much. Although I hear the Wolfetone rewind does wonders for it. Smooths it out, and tightens that notoriously woolly bass.

As an aside, the SD JB-7 in the neck KICKS ASS. It's almost the perfect neck pickup, as long as it's balanced with a high-output bridge pickup.

Sure.

They try to make them the same, but the biggest difference is the size of the pickups. It seems to make a difference.

hmm... this has me wanting the Jazz/Custom combo in my Dean Evo7, which is mahogany.

I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways,
we could reverse the particle flow through the gate.
We'll cross the streams.

I;m not certain, Vova. SD has two choices -

1. Try to wind the JB-7 to nearly the same standards as the regular JB, using the same materials, making basically a duplicate.

Or -

2. Tryo to make a 7-string version of the JB-7 that SOUNDS as much like the regular 6-string.

I'm pretty sure they go for the first, but the issues is size might play big role in the final tone. Maybe it's only small, but it does seem noticeable.
