When he rewound it to about 16 (pretty much matching the '80s JB6 I have), it opened the pickup up and de-mudded it - same bite, but a nice full bottom end without "wool"... |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | i have that combo in my homemade S7, which is african mahogany, but i modded the Custom with an Alnico V magnet. it sounds awesome--thick chewy midrange that has tons of depth and character. makes my other guitars sound thin and bland by comparison. i heartily endorse Jazz+Custom, especially if you can score an A5 magnet. _actual time_ : prog/math/metal/???? on myspace |

... or just cut them, like i did. On my S-7, they were long enough to get trough the back of the guitar! Become one of us or die, fuckers. / Rick - RHLC V-P. | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I read many people claiming that cutting the lower part of the pole pieces will affect sound... it's supposed to be a known mod from the 80's ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | For real? I've done research before doing it and all the info i gathered got me to think it would change about 1-2% of the sound. Unoticable, really. |

![]() | JB, 59, Jazz are all great PUs, they don't have any noise issues. If I had only one guitar I'd get 59/59 set & it can cover anything. '59 is the best Duncan I've ever heard. Duncan Distortion on the other hand sounds thin, I hate that thing. If you like to get more aggressive in top end JB is a great choice for bridge. However IMO it would be better to switch Jazz with '59, I like jazz a lot, but '59 is way more versatile, especially if you play rock or metal. |
