6s pickups vs. 7s pickups

I've noticed that a lot of times people say stuff about how 1 pickup sounds godly in 6 string but absolute shit in 7 string... or vice versa.

So, I figured for the benefit of everyone (me included ), what pickups are good in 6s or 7s, but shit in their counterpart? We could start a list?

so far I've heard that:

Evo 7s > Evo 6s
TZ6s > TZ7s

holy fuck!

You know, a lot of companies use the same name for 7's as they do for 6's. It's not a bad idea, but you'd better make sure you're delivering the same kind of sound to the end user. I don't know if there are any Duncans that would fit that description.

Personally I'm not a huge fan of the Screamin' Demon 6 myself. (I like it in the neck with Alnico II) But I imagine a 7-string version of that pickup would sound pretty good. We know Dimarzio makes all their 7's with Ceramic magnets to date. So any 6-string counterpart with an Alnico V magnet (they don't use Alnico II) has to have some kind of disparity between the two. How much? That's up to the player. They claim they can do other things with the wind or whatever to simulate the Alnico counterpart. I wouldn't say that one sucks and the other is great, but I can say that I had a TZ7 and PAF7 in my Schecter and I didn't like them and pulled them in short order. But I also pulled the JB-7 and the 59-7 that came stock. So I wasn't happy with either in that guitar. Now it's waiting for Blackouts, otherwise I'd go with a Custom/Jazz set, which I think sounds equally as good in 7 and 6 versions.

Such comparision is impossible.
I don't know how much you know about pickups etc, but Evo and Evo7 are only names. Those are completly different pickups. Companies simply lies about that Pickups in 6 or in 7 strings have completly different magnetic field, differend winding etc. so we can't simply compare them. Theyy are telling us "look we made 7 string Evo", but they don't They made another pickup with "sound" that can be similar to Evo, but for sure not "direct 7 string version of Evo"

All is your ear and needs, don't look at names, simply it doesn't mean anything

I would disagree. I think that both the Evo 7 & the Evo 6 are fantastic pickups and I have both in my guitars.

^That's at least good to hear, considering I've been hearing things about how bad the 6er Evo was (down the road, I might get 1 for my SZ).

Apophis, I'm not sure what your getting at right now? I just thought it'd be pretty cool to see which version of pickup sounds better (6 or 7). I'm aware that regardless of whatever they do, it will noway sound identical because, well they need an extra pole for starters. And y'know.

OK
But such comparison is nosense to me
As I said its all ears and needs.

You like Evo6 better, but Evo7 is great pickup too, but absolutely different

I'm quite happy with my Evo 6, and looking forward to trying an Evo 7.

I may end up going with D Activators for everything though.
