Need help wiring Bare Knuckles! (7DT, HELP!!)

Okay, since the tech I used to use wouldn't install the BKP's, "because they don't fit," I've decided to do it myself. I've already got the BKP's in the 1527 (they fit fine, by the way), so now I just need some help with wiring them.

I'm going to wire them the same way as the stock pups were (but with only a volume control), and I need to know which wires are which compared to the stock V7 pups. I tried google but that didn't turn up anything helpful.

Here's a pic of the original wiring if it helps at all. The gray wire is the bridge pickup and the brown is the neck.

Both BKP's have 5 wires, but the V7 bridge only has three (the neck also has 5). Do I just solder the matching wires on the BKP's to where the ones from the stock pups were and just ignore the others, or is it more complicated? I've never done any proper wiring (i did install an EMG, but that was a bit simpler).

Here's what I found on the BKP site:

Quote:
What is the Bare Knuckle Four conductor colour code?
Black =start of screw coil
White = finish of screw coil
Red = start of slug coil
Green = finish of slug coil
Any help is much appreciated! I want to get everything figured out before I start soldering, so I (hopefully) won't screw up too much.

Jarrett is a jewel in the rough
This is what Tim emailed to me when I asked about wiring

"red goes to hot and black/screen go to ground, leave the white and green soldered together and covered up."

If in doubt, email him, he replied to be very quickly.

Hope that helps.

Are you wiring in standard series or doing some special Ibanez coil-splitting wiring?

To do a standard series wiring, you should solder the White and Red wires together. I think that this is what you will end up doing on the bridge pickup.

You can visit Ibanez's site and see if they have the color codes to the V7 neck. I think they are the same as the color codes to the RG7321, but I cannot remmeber what the codes are, especially since I'm colorblind anyhow.

Once you know what the codes are, just translate between them for the neck pickup.

i'd unscrew the back of my S7 and tell you (at least for the bridge cause the neck is a Dactivator) but i can't find a screw driver

The switch is an ibanez special 5-way. I've been able to get a sound from the neck pup, but I still don't think it's quite right.I haven't been able to get anything out of the bridge pickup yet.

Ibanez :: Ibanez : Wiring Diagrams

Use that diagram to wire it up. That diagram uses Dimarzios so this is the equivalent colors between the two:

Dimarzio green = BKP black
Dimarzio white = BKP white
Dimarzio red = BKP red
Dimarzio black = BKP green

So for instance where you see a green dimarzio wire connected, you would connect the black wire of the BKP, and where you see a white dimarzio wire connected you would connect the white wire of the BKP, etc.

Hopefully this works/helps.

The link takes me to the page where you select instrument, year and model. Could you tell me which model and year the diagram was?

I actually just figured out the Dimarzio/BKP color codes myself, but I still have no idea how they compare to the IBZ pups. I'm going to see if I can draw myself a diagram using the one you mentiond as the base.

Just select 1999, RG7620. That's what I did anyway. It's the same switch that's in the 1527 I think.

Thanks. I'll see what I can come up with, and try to get it done tomorrow.

Well, I got it done, thanks to that diagram you posted. But there are still a few problems. Terrible hum in positions 3 and 4. Also with the bridge pup in series (pos. 1.) and the tone knob rolled off, it hums like crazy.

Good thing is, the pups sound amazing!

3 and 4 sound like you have the humbuckers coil tapped, perhaps? If you tap just one coil of a humbucker, you'll get mad hum, just liek a single coil Even if run in parallel with another coil, if that coil is not reverse wound in relation to the original (singe) humbucker coil, mad hum.

Getting hum with the tone rolled off doesn't sound right at all though. Something isn't wired right, I think, bro.

Are your electronics properly grounded to your bridge?
