Pickups test-drive (unfortunately without pics)
So we have here
EMG-60 ; Dimarzio D-Sonic ; SD Jeff Back and RG2550E (basswood) ; LP epihone Studio (mahagony) ; Framus DIABLO PRO (swamp ash) All pickups was instaled in bridge position So I will not say about all process (coz anyway we was not has a camera, when we was doing it) All what can I say about pickups 1 EMG When you play with this pickup you hear 90% of pickup and 10% of wood. We was really shocked But it's a true................ So EMG can be place in any shitly guitar and it will sounds good ![]() 2 Dimarzio We was shocked too Coz yes sound was different in different guitars but 50-60% was pickup sound and not the body. So this can be good upgrade for senior level guitar to good. 3 SD I was really amazed. Coz when we was put JB in each guitar I was listening to guitar and not the pickup. And that was really great!!! So guys .......now my choice is SD BTW I planned to put JB in bridge and Jazz in neck of my 2127 ![]() Cheers
Sorry for my english

I really don't understand how someone can know if they are hearing more pickup than wood or more wood than pickup?

Well, if you hear just the pickup, it won't matter what kind of wood the guitar is made of. Example: Place an EMG in a basswood guitar, you get a bright, full tone with lots of clear harmonics. Place the same pickup in a mahogany guitar. Do you hear the same tone? You should, because the EMG is balanced in such a way that it will take it's sound directly from the string, and not from the wood.
A Seymore Duncan pickup will get it's tone mostly from the string, too, but the tone will be more colored by the wood, because the frequency range is more focused than an EMG, and because the magnetic field is larger, causing the pickup to react with a larger cross-section of the guitar. ![]() |

And P.S. Yevetz... SD JB actually stands for "Jazz/Blues", not Jeff Beck as it is commonly misinterpreted as. Similar to hot the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop EVH stands for "Evenly Voiced Harmonics", not Eddie Van Halen. Just a side note... |

The JB and EVH were originally intended for those respective artists, to the best of my knowledge. But, for obvious reasons, they can't use those names, and so, the convenient replacement terms. ![]() Jazz/Blues? The JB is almost the definitive rock pickup! And Evenly Voiced Harmonics. Wow. In the words of the church Lady... how conveeeenient.
