Duncan Distortion vs. Custom in C-7 Blackjack

which would you pick for clarity, tightness, and punch in this guitar, through an Engl Savage 120?

need to know soon, planning on ordering hopefully in time for it to arrive before oct. 30

Not the Distortion. If you can get your hands on an Alnico 8 for the stock JB, do that - the Distortion is going to sound like the JB's annoying little brother, at best.

i actually put a ceramic magnet in the stock JB and from what i've been able to tell, i like the tone....problem is, i fucked up the wax potting in the process, so i can't play it at gig levels without getting horrible microphonic squealing.

I liked the JB in the Blackjack I had, but if you wnat more clarity and punch the SH-5 will get you there.

Can I be the devil on your shoulder?

So why not just dip it into a can of melted paraffin wax to re-pot the pickups? There are tutorials on projectguitar.com that show you how to do it. Not expensive and you can do it yourself. If you already like the sound of that pickup just re-pot it and you're set... it would make more sense than buying another pickup unless you really wanted to buy that other pickup.

Dude the distortion slays. I find it very tight in the lows and has a great upper midrange punch for all of your soloing needs. Compared to a JB7 it owns it in every possible way. Duncan custom is great as well but I found that i had to raise it too close to the strings to get the kind of output I was looking for. DOnt let the "distortion" name fool you, its not like a Invader or something rediculous like that.

"and I sure as shit don't fucking roll! Shomer shabbos!"

2 reasons.....the ceramic magnet i used is taller than the stock AlNiCo V, and the spacers aren't tall enough to make the coils stand up straight, and also because i still have the stock magnet and i think i'm gonna try sending the stock pickup to wolfetone at some point, and try it in my Kramer 7.
