Straight-up BS, propegated by the old myth that 7620's originally shipped with Blazes. The New7 is supposed to be closest to a Super Distortion, which sounds nothing like a blaze. Take a look at Dimarzio's tone charts. Any perceived resemblance (heavy treble and bass with slightly scooped midrange vs. strong bass and mids with slightly rolled back treble) is straight-up placebo effect.

That said, with a scooped amp you DON'T want a scooped pickup. TZ or BC, with probably the BC being the best option if you want a very "tight" pickup.

Naturally, we expect a review when you get the thing - if you can do sound clips, that'd be cool, too, as Engls are a little tricky to track down out here.

Maybe you need an edible pickup? ... I had to post this from a response I gave to a pickup question on the Petrucci forum...

thanxs .

I think the Big Mac hambucker gives a great distorted sound, and a tasty special sauce. And if you get the Hambucker Happy meal, you get a neat toy with it!
