K&M 16280 guitar wall hanger - screw-mount, features flexible support arms for various guitar models, covered with protective non-marring rubber. Weight: 0.2kg (Not suitable for nitro lacquered guitars.)

Does anybody care to explain this to a tired swed ??

nitro contains tons of organic solvents. that's "organic" in the chemistry meaning, not in the hippie-food meaning.

in a nitro finish, trace amounts of these nasty solvents are still evaporating out of the lacquer for a very long time after it feels dry--6 months or more. organic solvents, particularly the nasty ones in nitro, can melt plastic and rubber. so if you hung a nitro-finished guitar from a rubber hanger, with that hanger in contact with the nitro finish 24-7, the trace amounts of solvent still leaking out of the finish could melt the rubber to the guitar and spoil the finish there.

no problem.

all that matters is the finish on the part of the guitar that will be touching the hanger. if it's a wall hanger and only the body is finished with nitro, like my homemade S7, then no worries.

btw, this also applies with recently nitro-ed bodies and storing them in a case. i've heard of nitro reacting with the "fur" lining a guitar case, and even that "fur" leaving tons of tiny little marks in the nitro clearcoat.

My dad nitro-lacquered a bass once and set it in a stand about a month after it was sprayed. It is now permanently bonded to the stand. Seriously.
