That looks to me like a black/creme zebra, in the picture... I'd be SHOCKED if you actually get a white one, unless Dimarzio did a special run for your distributer or something...

They advertise it as a black/white, so I'd be surprised if it wasn't. They've also got a separate article for a black/creme-pickup.

The pic is definitely Bk/Cream, but I couldn't answer you about the availability of white. The bobbins are different for a pickup that has the large slug poles, like the Evo, Blaze, and Super Distortion. That's probably why they don't mess with colors too much.
Blaze/Evo/etc. have big holes all the way through, and the pole threads the entire length. So the slug poles of an AN/PAF/TZ wouldn't fit through, and the screw poles would fall right through. Bobbins that have screw poles are large on top, and then they narrow to accept the threads of the screw poles. Also the Blaze/Evo poles are short, while the magnet is taller. So there're no holes in the baseplate. So it's a different baseplate too. I realize that doesn't affect the bobbin colors, but the point is, if you wanted to force the Blaze bobbins to work with TZ/AN screw/slug pole pieces, you'd need to actually thread the baseplate to accept the screw poles, since they won't thread the bobbin hole. You CAN ream out the holes in a Blaze/Evo coil to accept the slug coils of a TZ/AN/PAF, though. So maybe that's why they can make a zebra with a white coil for the slugs. But they can't do a white coil for screw poles. Seems to me that the cheapest thing to have sitting in inventory would be a bunch of different colored bobbins. So if it were me, I'd allow it on a custom order basis and upcharge to make it worth my while. But I'm not Larry Dimarzio. (and we're all better off for it!) |
