RG7620 pickup choice
I've had my Rg7620 for about a year.Great guitar and everything but I think it's time to change the puckups. What do you guys think of the stock new7's?But more importantly, Which pickup combination would you people recomend to get more clarity on the low B?I'm using a set of .10-.52 with a low .68 for the B.

What sound are you trying to get? What bands do you like? What amp are you playing? What is about the pickups currently in the guitar that you don't like? If you can answer these questions it will be easier for us to help you out.

Evolution 7 for the bridge for really tight low end or even blaze bridge.

I'm playing through a peavey XXX stack. I'm looking for a hard rock/classic rock/metal sound. From what I read, I'm leaning towards a blaze bridge and a blaze neck. However I really did petrucci's tone so even an air norton in the neck and a tone zone in the bridge? As long I get a tight low end B.

i've been using an Evo7 and Blaze Neck in my RG7620 for quite some time now, and it's a really great combo. the Evo7 never really gets muddy (through my amp, anyways), and the Blaze Neck is warm but clear.
I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways,
we could reverse the particle flow through the gate. We'll cross the streams. |

The Tone Zone is an interesting beast in that it sounds nothing like its 6 string equivalent - which is a fucking ncredible pickup. The TZ7 hasn't had the best welcome from seven string players looking for a seven string tone zone, but to those more open minded and willing to work with its quirks, there are some good sounds to be coaxed from it.
![]() I'm pretty sure JP uses the Drop Sonic 7 in his guitars though... (Not a DT fan ) |

The Blaze is a good choice, but if you're really going for more clarity, the Blaze Custom might be worth looking into. Its sound is a lot closer to Petrucci's (he uses a D-Sonic, which is also good) tone than the Blaze, too, unless you're going for the tone on Train of Thought, in which case the Blaze is your guy. I have two 7421s, one with a Blaze, and one with a Blaze Custom. IMO, the Custom owns the Blaze, but then again I'm one of those guys that loves his mids.
"Tom, you're like 1 part a serious dork, and 2 parts the most awesome fucking guy ever." -

honestly, for the sound you want, the new 7s should fit the bill nicely. call me
but i really dig the new 7 equipped RG7s i've played. according to Dimarzio they are the 7 string equivalent of the Super distortion (pretty much a standard for hard rock/ metal) and Super 2. the Blaze bridge and neck or Blaze bridge and Air norton are really good combos as well for a basswood guitar. the Blaze custom i think is better suited in brighter toned guitars (maple, alder, ash etc.) |
