Exclamation Generic pickup recommendation thread (for RG7420)

Hey everyone. I've got an Ibanez RG7420 that I'm going to upgrade the pu's in, and I need some suggestions as I'm not sure what pickups will give me what I want.

I play in a technical death metal band (www.myspace.com/burialwithin), and I play a Peavey XXX (soon to be replaced with a 5150II) through two 4x12 cabs (a 5150 slant and a Behringer 412s). I play with a pretty midrangey tone, generally with the highs on 4ish, mids around 6.5, and lows around 4 or 5. I want a bridge pickup that's crunchy without being horribly trebley, something really thick sound that doesn't get muddy when chugging (we detune to A). I was thinking about the DiMarzio X2n, maybe? From the reviews I read in the sticky pickup review thread, it sounds like it might be what I want, but I'm open to other suggestions.

As for my neck pickup, which I use to do all my lead work, (and this is again based on what I read in the above thread) I'm seriously considering the Air Norton 7 neck pu. I want something warm and smooth that handles legato playing well, something along the lines of Muhammed from Necrophagist) yet has decently high output.

Thanks for any/all suggestions, and I look forward to being part of this forum for a long time to come.

I had an x2n7 in my RG7420 and it reigned supreme. Was nice, tight and articulate. I have an Air Norton 7 (for sale ) But I never put it in the guitar since it's as good as sold.

Mah musics.

Muhammad has a D-Activator in his Xiphos I believe, so you might want to try that.
