![]() | Help! Grounding to bridge... hey there! ok so I swapped passive Duncans in for the active EMGS in my hellraiser 7... For grounding- active pickups don't need to be grounded to the bridge/strings if I understand correctly, while passive pickups DO require such grounding. Now I have an issue because the guitar was not designed for passive pups - there is no easy way to run a ground wire to the TOM bridge posts, (unless i drill... eek). I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts? Also, I'm curious how adding an EMG afterburner to my guitar might affect things? Will this make my guitar "active" and can I then avoid grounding in this way??? I emailed EMG Tech support- and I'll post their response here if/when I get one! rock on |

![]() ![]() ![]() | You'll either have a wire that runs through your guitar (drill) or a wire that runs over your guitar.... I have grounded a flatmount bridge by cutting a bridge-width piece of copper shielding tape that ran over into the pickup hole where I soldered it to ground, but it might be hard to make that look right on a TOM. The glue on that shielding foil is pretty vicious, so I wouldn't count on it being a reversible mod. |

![]() | truuuue i appreciate the replies I will eventually attempt some drilling under the guitar's face... for now I have a wee wire going across the surface. as for the emg afterburner... adding one would not fix my problem. Passive pups=passive pots (250-500k)= must ground normally. rock on |
