![]() | What kind of DiMarzios... ...did John Petrucci use when he was still with Ibanez and before Dimarzio made him custom pick-ups? Thanks, --Nik |

I think a Steve's Special came into the equation after a while as well. ![]() ![]() ![]() | For the first album, he used a B.C. Rich, and I have no idea what was loaded in that guitar. I'm fairly certain that for Images & Words he used a Tone Zone bridge, PAF Pro Neck, then for Awake, he switched to the Air Norton neck and Steve's Special bridge. I believe his 7's stuck with the regular Blaze for both neck and bridge (although I can't say an AN7 would've surprised me), being as JP kind of inspired the creation of the Steve's Special due to liking the way the 7 string Blaze bridge worked with Mesa amps, and wanted that for his sixes. This I believe is how it stayed until he switched to EB/MM. The EB/MM Dimarzios I believe are custom specifically for his model. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Actually... Actually, I just remembered that I DO remember an interview from the Images era stating his neck as a Humbucker from Hell, because he said it had a very single coil like sound (ala yngwie). I guess I forgot that....(been a while since I backlogged into JP history ) |

![]() | Thanks for your replies! And I already know the answer to this, but they don't sell Petrucci's custom Dimarzios do they? I love how they sound... You guys listen to Suspended Animation? His tone is freakin awesome one that album. |

They DO pop up on Ebay every now and then, but they tend to get rather pricey. "...and everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moon." |

My only concern is that the Air Norton is a relatively low-output pick-up, and yet it sound like Petrucci uses some high-output stuff... I don't want to have to crank up the gain for legato stuff :/ Also, is there someplace where I can listen to recordings made with these pick-ups? | |
