HELL NO! Tapping is outlawed when using them. I thought everyone knew that?

Just kidding, bro. Yeah, dude. The AN works real well for (and I'll go down a list)

1. Smooth, singing lead lines
2. Jazzy, dark cleans
3. Split, single-coil funk (sounds convincingly like a warm Strat neck pup)
4. Heavy, high-gain rhythm (yeah, neck pups suck for rhythm. NOT the AN)
5. Sweeps (it rules for this)
6. Smooth legato and tapping-type lines (fat, articulate, and punchy, while till sounding real smooth)
7. Psuedo-acoustic backing when mixed with a piezo. Makes a piezo sound like it has a bit of a soundhole pickup mixed with it.
8. Blues rhythms and fat leads

That's actually really great for me because when I play Stream of Consciousness I am always too lazy to switch to the bridge pick-up for the riffage between the first and the main solo, so it sounds a tad crappy on my current guitar lol

Sounds like it would work great for you, then.

I actually use the neck pickup ONLY (AN7, of course) for all the rhythm on one of my band's songs. Just wanted that different feel. The AN7 stays tight and focused the whole time, with uber gain. It sounds different from the bridge, mind you, but it doesn't sound bad.

Yeah, the first album (When Dream And Day Unite), he was using B.C. Rich and Randall amps. I don't know what model of either, but I could tell you he had a full stack Randall, and that the B.C. Rich was pink!!! It also had a Floyd. By the time Images & Words came out he was using Ibanez, Mesa Boogie, etc.

Sorry to bring up this old thread, but you can see Petrucci's guitar in the early days in this video:

Is that a B.C. Rich? I'm only familiar with their Warlock models (which I hate) but that looks pretty cool...

Anyway, funny video. Enjoy

Yeah I have that. That's the one. It's hard to see the color on that vid, but you can see it in the WDADU booklet, that guitar is friggin' pink! But that is a B.C. Rich alright. It's amazing how times have changed...

My eyes. They. Burn.

Even then, they were tight as hell. The singer just cracks me up. I shouldn't dig into them too much though. If someone ever found pictures of me from '87...

Oh my god... lol.

Petrucci's solos kicked ass, and the band is tight, but the vocalist? wow.
