Wow - thats really weird. My RG7621 had a JB4 in the bridge before I installed my evolution.

If the tabs area really preventing it, I would say trim the tabs on the SDs a little so that they fit. Otherwise Im having a hard time understanding - some pics would help.

Scarve is a jewel in the rough
Yeah I had that problem too back in the day... Mine was also a '99. Can't help you with the amount of wood that you should remove, though...

what exact part is too big? is it the mounting tabs, or the screw poles sticking out of the bottom?

if it's the mounting tabs, i would recommend getting a pair of tin-snips and gently snipping off the cornerrs on the tabs.

if it's the screw poles sticking out teh bottom of the pickup, i recommend drilling 7 shallow holes in the bottom of the pickup route. press the pickup into the cavity to leave tiny marks where you'll need to drill each hole. use a 1/4" or so bit size, and drill really shallow--only 1/4" deep. then test the pickup and see if it drops right in or if you need to drill deeper.
