Pups for an S7230

I bought an S7230 a while back as my first foray into the world of 7 strings. I like playing it a lot but recently I had the opportunity to play an RGT220A and was flat out blown away by the stock dimarzio pickups that it had in it and I want to change out the stock pups in my s7230. After a bit of research here and elsewhere I think I know what I want but I thought I would run it by the experts here

What I think I want to do is put a Dimarzio Blaze neck in the neck position and a Dimarzio Blaze Custom in the bridge. Im looking for somthing that will do a good Chugga chugga but Im not looking for a real "brutal" sound. If I had to compare it to a bands sound I would say Im looking for somthing like the sound in Lacuna Coil, or better yet somthing close to Within Temptation.

Given the proper amplifier and effects pedals will I be able to get that kind of sound from this combination of pups ?

Any and all input is greatly appreciated!! Im a total newb at this and if Ive just made ridiculously stupid assumptions let me know! I just ask that you tell me why Ive made a dumbass move. Contstuctive Criticism in blunt language is alwyas appreciated

i know in my basswood RG7621 the Blaze Custom is a very vintage sounding Blaze. i've got a Blaze Neck in my RG7620, and it's quite scooped (lacking in the mids).

i think, if you want that chugga sound, you could try the DS-7.

I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways,
we could reverse the particle flow through the gate.
We'll cross the streams.

Evolution 7 in the bridge. It will give you the chug-a-chug you need. For neck pickups Air Norton 7 I think beats out the Blaze neck. Its very close but I would get the Air Norton.

i've read that the Evo7 is kinda weird and lacking in mahogany, but it might work. the Air Norton is definitely a good choice for the neck. the only reason why i wanted the Blaze Neck in my RG7620 is because i've already got three Air Nortons in my collection

Hmm Leon, I have heard the Evo7 is great in basswood and mahogany.

maybe i heard wrong

actually, i'm thinking about trying out some new pickups. the Evo7 is cool, but it's a bit sterile sounding. but, that might just be the nature of being a clear pickup. the Blaze Custom is fun, but not as clear.

maybe i should try out a Duncan :gasp:

that's a pretty good place to start, and definitely an improvement over the stock pickups

SD JB or Custom in the bridge, Jazz or '59 in the neck!

JB's a GREAT in mahogany, the Custom similar but a little more high end; Jazz will give you sweeter tones in the neck, '59 more "PAF on steroids"

I haven't heard Within Temptation before... doesn't Lacuna Coil use EMG's? Maybe not, dunno for sure.

The SD site has really good sound clips of each pickup, as long as you keep in mind all the 'dirty' clips are done on a Les Paul, and the cleans on an alder Strat (IIRC). Since the S is mahogany, you should get a good idea how it will sound.
