Anyone ever tried Carvin C26 7 string pups?
I had a Carvin 6 string about 10 years ago and I loved it. I am wanting to upgrade my pups in my 7 string Ibanez AX7221 and was trying to do it on the cheap and came across these carvin C26 7 string pups for only $58 a piece at www.carvin.com. Hit this thread if you have ever heard or tried any Carvin 7 string pups. |

They're crap. Really, really terrible - weak, thin, and microphonic. Their six string pickups are OK, they actually used to be quite good. The 7s are garbage. I had a set, and they stayed in the guitar for about ten minutes - and this was after getting new rings made to handle the damn things. (They have two screws on the bass side, so you'd probably have to route an AX.)
On the flip side, I've got a Blaze I'll sell you for $40. ![]() |

I've only heard bad things about Carvin's seven-string pickups. Everyone I know changes them out first thing.
For just a few bucks more (like less than $10) you could get DiMarzio's from Eric: http://www.ericsguitars.com/dimarzioprices.html Eric is a member here and he kicks ass.

I have them in my Carvin, stock. I like them, and i have guitars with Duncans, Dimarzios, and EMGS.
They sound really good in Mahogany, nice and warm with good output. They have a good amt of gain and sustain, more so than some of my other guitars. They don't have as much edge as my other pickups, but they have great volume and sound brilliant clean. However, for the money i'd see Eric @ Eric's guitars and get some Dimarzios. They are more cutting and sound great in many applications...besides, dimarzio has a pickup for just about any type of music...The carvins only have their one, and i think it does well all around and i don't know how'd they sound in anything other than mahogany...but i likes |

WOW CArvin get such a bad rep for thier pickups and rightfully so
..the pickups are really more geared towards rock n Roll and Country twang!. If you change the pickups in your CARVIN and ordering Dimarzio make sure you order the new pickups with a Plastic base not metal and it is easy to grind/file down the plastic base for a sweet and easy install of pickups without routing Wood on CARVIN. I get my lundgrens made to slip right in without any modeifications, but. I have installed more then my share of Dimarzios in my guitars at first. I prefered the Blaze Customs for Bridge, and Evolution 7's for the neck. ![]() |
