neoclassical is a jewel in the rough
Rio grande/Fralin pickups

Has anyone used the Rio grande 7 string pickups? What are your opinions of them? This would be for an Ibanez 1527 (basswood) playing death metal/neoclassical metal. Does Lindsy Fralin make 7's yet?

TIA,
Adam

Death metal with a basswood guitar? You should also consider the Bare Knuckle Ceramic Warpigs, you can't get any better than that.

I've got a set of Rio(s) in my Blade. But I've never tried their 7-string pickups.

99% sure Fralins don't come in 7-string sizes, or I'd have heard about it. Never hurts to ask them though.

i love the Rio Grande 7-string single coils--they do a great texas blues, "pushed" single-coil sound.

i've never tried their humbuckers, but i've read the humbuckers are designed to be two single-coils put together, so they will sound like single-coils when coil split. if that's true, i don't think they would be a great choice for death or neoclassical metal, where i think you'd want a bright tone with crisp articulation.
