![]() | New 25k Pot & Input Jack for EMG-707??? I have a Jackson COW and I want to replace the stock volume pot and the input jack. The pickup is (also stock) the EMG-707. I know I need a 25k pot (mini, i think) but I was wondering if anyone here could recommend some top-notch hardware? Also, if it helps, I'm doing this for 2 reasons: 1.) For the obvious reason of upgrading, and... 2.) When I'm plugged in, if I jiggle the cord around, the sound crackles and goes in and out like theres a loose connection or something. I checked but can't see any loose connections. I think it's just that the stock parts are crappy, I dunno . |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The pot doesn't need to be mini (if anything, that'll just make it a pain in the ass to solder it all in); the input jack MUST be stereo (I'd go for Switchcraft) unless you want a manual power-on/power-off switch to control when your pickups are being powered. Check your cable, it's not at all uncommon for them to have strands pop off and start grazing the wrong connection. I just opened up a cable of my own (from when I still bought them prepackaged... never do that if you have any basic soldering skill whatsoever!) and saw that literally 3/4 of the hot wire was within a breath of the ground and that was why I was getting constant Rice Krispies out of the fucker. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | As previously stated, 25k pot standard or mini, and a TRS 1/4" input and you are set. I suspect your previous input had a prong bent slightly out of true or a loose connection in general. |

![]() | Sounds good guys, thanks. I'll check out those options. But just one more thing.... -Are you saying that if any of the input jack's prongs were bent at all, that could cause a problem? Or that it's bent and just not touching the cable's tip properly? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | If it's not connected very tightly (like a somewhat bent jack) that could be a problem. Another problem is poorly-made cable; that cable I just mentioned was twisted all around itself and eventually the hot just popped off the jack and I had to resolder it today. If you're getting popping and the pickups aren't the problem (with EMG's quick connect I don't think that'll be the weak link) then check those. Jeff |

![]() | Hmmm, I checked the jack and it it seems to fit a cable just fine. But I don't have the cable-in-question with me, so I'll have to check it next time I go to my practice space. But in the meantime. Can any one tell me the difference between these two, or at least which one to go with?... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | 1) It's an output jack. 2) You can't go wrong with either Switchcraft or Neutrik connectors. They're the "industry standard" for a reason. If you jump around a lot, you might want to consider going with a locking Neutrik jack, though you may have to modify where the jack is mounted. 3) Go for the first one. The second one is a blend pot with a "notch" in the middle position. This space intentionally left blank. |
