Yep, it should. He used the DS6 in a Mahogany/Maple PRS, so the tone should be very similar. I have a DS/AN in my RGA121 and it also sounds fantastic; I highly reccomend the D Sonic! It should give you much more crispness and clarity while retaining the thick mids and bass of the TZ7

Without getting flamed, I'd just like to point out that the only people on this board who seem to like this pickup don't use tube amps. Digital amps and the such really hide its flaws well. It's pretty heinous through just about any tube amp I've ever tried (ENGL, Mesa, Peavey, VHT, etc).

Anyone tried it in parallel, like PG used to do with his Tone Zones?

Outside of this forum, I've heard countless people saying that the TZ-7 sounds really great in guitars that are made of brighter wood. Then again, people on this site are prone to have a better idea of what they're talking about when it comes to 7-string stuff. I had wanted to get a TZ-7 for my Squier Strat for years (never got around to it for whatever reason) because everyone said it was the best for that particular guitar, but since joining up here I've been giving it second thoughts.

I had noticed before that a lot of guitars at Ikebe Gakki had them, and a lot of those were mahogany.

wrong--i run all-tube preamps through Boogie power amps. but as i've said all along about the TZ7 sounding great in my guitars, i do like dark tones.

i am real curious to hear how the TZ7 sounds in my alder S7, with an Alnico V magnet. part of the tonal difference between the TZ6 and 7 may be the different magnet type.

If people do like it, that's cool. I tried them through several guitars and several rigs, and it had a lifeless fizzy tone to it. Basically unusable IMO. Such a shame because the TZ6 is my favorite 6 string pickup of all time.

I had a TZ7 for a while in a 7421, and couldn't dial in anything usable even on my POD.

Blegh.
