Best solution for removing rust from metal hardware?

I have a guitar on the way over and it has a decent amount of corrosion/rust on the bridge, studs and some of the screws (like the ones holding the tuners). A buddy of mine told me I should be able to buy some chemical and soak the hardware in it to remove the rust without harming the strength of the hardware. Anyone have a suggestion on what might fit that bill? I'd like to take the whole bridge apart and do everything to make sure that there isn't ANY corrosion left on the guitar once reassembled and set up. I've never removed a trem before, and tips on how to do so safely and reinstall it? Thanks gents!

I'll have to look at walmart then since I'm not in Canada bro! Do you know if it's safe on the metal though? I know some stuff that will kill the rust but might eat away at the metal and the bridge is not easily replaced (EBMM doesn't sell their bridges aftermarket).

I would imagine, the same principle applies. Metal is metal. It might take off the finish, too, though

Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high,
Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie,
Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally.
Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee
Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread
Its branches like a Temple overhead.
