Going to Active pickups -

Other than the obvious routing, what else do I need to know?

My C7 requires EMG's.

Hmm. I'd say 707s at 18v - EMG will tell you how to set it up that way, and they're much more high-fidelity in that configuration...

I've got mine running at 9v, I think I actually prefer it to 18v coz of the compression
I assume you've decided on which model pickups?
You can use a 50k pot on the volume to give a little more presence but EMG's really have quite enough of that! It's more a trick for bass pickups when you're running all the EQ modules.
Make sure your battery doesn't short anything. No big deal really installing EMG's.
Oh, and don't leave your guitar plugged in when not in use!

Just remember...once you do it, you can't go back due to the excessive routing.

After YEARS of using active EMGs, I've recently re-discovered passive pups & I love it.

EMG's will already come with pre-wired tone and volume pots and a new input jack that you can use incase your stock jack isn't a stereo one (if it is, you can just use the stock one). Other than that, it's just routing, replacing the electronics, and there ya go. The batteries draw power when the cable is connected so make sure to unplug it when you're done. and if you feel the desire you can run 18v instead of 9, just get another connection for a 9 volt battery and wire it in series with the current battery connector. You'll experience lower magnetic pull, higher compression, and one of the best things: low impedance output, when you switch to emg's.

Fuck it, you only live once!

Exactly. Low-noise, clean signal, and no freaking using YOU as a ground (like passives). That means, no shocks, no grunge in the signal, and high-fidelity sound.

I forgot to mention Chris, but if your guitar comes with a 5-way switch, it'll need to be replaced with a 3-way switch (no coil taps on emg's).
