This is funny how this is getting into the common argument where you get some insane members who think that an 80 gauge string in B is really really light and the other members on the other side who think that a 48 gauge string is fine for B.

As already mentioned, this is personal preference. I personally really like 58 gauge and 59 gauge for B and I think it's plenty tight enough. The other guitarist in my band uses a 56 gauge for his B and he said that he tried a 58 gauge once and thought that it felt too tight and didn't sound as good as a 56. I don't like feeling like my string is going to snap and hit me in the face at any moment. Some famous guitarists who tune to B use 52 or 54 gauge strings, so it's obviously not a problem with the gauge.

While it is possible that there is a problem with the string, the root of the problem is not the gauge. I've had bad experience with GHSs as well. On one of my six strings, I tuned the guitar to standard on a pair of GHSs and the low E sounded okay open, but sounded off when fretted. When I changed the string to a pair of D'Addarios with the same gauge, the problem was solved.

Just hoping that you're having the same problem I was having. I doubt that it'd be intonation if the low B is the ONLY string that sounds off. It might be a problem that none of us have thought of, but I'm just guessing that it'd be the GHSs. I've played GHSs that I didn't have that problem on, but I've also had that experience, so who knows?

Doode I dont get this big string band wagon. I've been using 10-56's for years and have had no problems. I think it has to do with string core size. the GHS 56 core might be smaller than DR's When you can hear the string go sharp almost a half step thats a problem. Intonation na, I've havd my intonation checked, not an issue because switching back to DR's hase solved it. I wanted to check out GHS because I've never played them before and they are inexpensive. Sticking with what I know for now. If you can use GHS cool, but I just want to say that I've had problems and it looks like others have as well.

I think core size may be an issue too, but I doubt too many people will tell you that a .56 B is properly matched to the rest of a 10-46 set and you can have problems with any brand because of that. Hell, give me a 56 in any gauge and I'll have to work to *not* make it go sharp. Not fun to hear that you've had a shitty experience with them but it's probably more helpful to look at other things that might be a problem.

What trem arm do I buy for this guitar though? It's an Ibanez Lo-TRS.

I think all in all that this was the problem. You used a lighter B string instead of a heavier 68. Therefore as stated earlier, it created an action problem where the string was buzzing a fret in a fas "Hammer on/off" and created pitch issues. I had the same problem on my V-7. Just had to adjust the neck a tad and problem solved.

Ignorance is not bliss. Ignorance only hides the truth. And the longer that truth has to hide, the more it stings when it makes itself known.

Could have been. But the guitar wasn't previously set up for a 68. It was set up for a 58 and it played perfect, otherwise I wouldnt have bought it. Had to have been the GHS string.
