Dsonic7 and PAF7?? Good combO?

How do these pups compare to the blaze/evo? Just curious as Im getting tired of the sound of blazes - want to upgrade my new7s to something else.

Wanna have the dsonic in the bridge and paf in the neck.

DSonic 7 has had mixed reviews. I like mine, but it's not fully hum-cancelling, and it i shigh output, so it makes a lot of noise.

The PAF 7 has a very low output. It works great for a nice warm bluesy tone, but doesn't have a lot of crunch. It is bassy, though, so it'll work with the right amplifier.

The EVO 7 is a very bright, harmonically rich, pickup with ooods and scads of output. Complete opposite of the PAF 7.

The Blaze is a very well-rounded pickup with decent harmonics and plenty of bass.

You know I keep seeing people say the DS7 is noisy... I must have the uber anomally pickup, as mine is dead silent. I'm still wondering if the noise problems are because people are tying off wires instead of actually soldering them to ground...

Anyways, my main concern with this combo would be that the output difference might make for some volume matching problems. It's also worth noting that the DS7 sounds better in mahogany. My favorite pup combo at the moment is probably D-Sonic 7 bridge Air Norton 7 neck.

No Steve Bleucher (sp?) himself admits it's not a true humbucker. A noise gate will take care of the worst of it, so if you run one maybe that's why yours is quiet, but it's definitely slightly prone to 60-cycle hum by design.

There's a huge output difference in play here, as the PAF is about as low output as Dimarzio offers and the DS-7 is basically half a blaze and half a X2N stuck together, and is seriously hot. If you want to go with a PAF7, I'd say either a Tone Zone (not ideal, but in basswood gets kind of an EVH vibe and pairs nicely with a lower output neck for a more vintage toned axe), or a Blaze neck in the bridge (Korn-style growl) would be a better match.

Nah this is without a gate, and in a house with some of the worst interference in the universe (I live within about a block of several radio towers and can't use my powered monitors due to hum/radio broadcasts getting picked up). Very weird. Leon can vouch for it not being any noisier than any other humbucker.

You could also use two PAF7s

Decipher is a jewel in the rough
Yeah, the Dsonic 7 is pretty noisy. I just keep my Decimator set pretty tight to help compensate for it. And I'm copper sheilding my cavity this week to see if that helps as well.

As for the combo, it's not too bad. That's what I'm running right now in my K7. Together they make an interesting yet pleasant tone. Very warm. I think though the Dsonic 7 would be better paired with something hotter though.

Strange. Maybe they rolled out a new version? I know Bob had been playing a prototype... Either way, from the horse's mouth, it's not a "true" humbucker and is more prone to 60-cycle hum than normal.

Was this aftermarket, or stock in the JP7? I'm wondering if the EBMM ships with a customized, hum-cancelling version, much like the neck is a slightly tweaked Air Norton...

Hehe nope this is in my S7420, and I got it in April '06 if I recall correctly. I was one of the first people on here to use one when everybody else was whining about their pre-orders not coming in yet... I wasn't even thinking about the one in the JP7
