Tremol-no vs. good ol' blocks of wood?

want to block the trem on my S7. don't need or want to use it at all in any way. does using wood blocks hurt anything at all in either the long or short term?

if you want to lock it down permanantly, a block of wood would probably do the trick. or maybe two, so you can't dive OR pull up.

...but then, i don't know if they would slide around, or what.

but, if you want the functionality of being able to lock down your trem, locking it to dive-only mode, or full floating, all with the turn of a few thumb screws, get a T-No

I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways,
we could reverse the particle flow through the gate.
We'll cross the streams.

If you got a ZR trem it can already be blocked in dive only mode, RTFM! If not the Tremol-no is the best, I got one for my RG3120 and it just kicks ass! In blocked mode the sound is almost as beefy as my fixed TOM Schecter!

If it's a 7320, I BELIEVE the Tremol-no can't be used with the ZR trem. If it's a 7420, the tremol-no's real advantage is that you can go back and forth between full floating, dive only, and fixed on the fly. If you'll never, everwant to use your trem again, then that's sort of a moot point, and a chunk of wood certainly is cheaper than a tremol-no. If you'd like to be able to wank on it on occasion, though, the T-no is the way to go.

the 7320 doesn't need a Tremol-no cause it has its exact equivalent integrated to the ZR trem.

Actually.....

If you're wanting to go "Full Time Hardtail" or "Never Use The Trem Ever Again", the Tremol-No is better than a simple block of wood/stack of nickels taped together/ex-girlfriends panties/playing cards/pink polo stuffed in the trem cavity.

Why?

When locked, the Tremol-No provides a direct, metal-to-metal-to-wood connection between the string, the trem, and the body. This is what gives you that increased sustain and helps your direct-mount pickups really sing. The trem springs are removed from the equation.

Even with a glued-in block of the hardest hardwood, you won't be able to get the same result. Using a wood block, the springs are still in the equation. They are natural vibration absorbers and will take away some sustain and resonance.

Install and setup the T-No, then change out the thumbscrews with the set screws (included). Lock everything down. Put your cover plate back on.
Done.
It's now a hardtail, and will function- and sound- just like one.

"Thank YOU, Jim Day!"

Just playing devil's advocate here...

If you take the trem springs out and use a glued-in solid block of wood to block the trem, aren't you accomplishing the same thing as a Tremol-No by enabling a direct trem-block-to-wood connection? That seems more direct to me than using a steel shaft, a couple of set screws and wood screws to try and transfer all the vibrations from the block to the body.

That said, the Tremol-No is awesome, totally effortless and 100% reversible.

This space intentionally left blank.

f'n thing keeps lifting off of the block when I dive.

Can I be the devil on your shoulder?
