Seymour Duncan '59 (bridge)
I've done a bunch of searching and I think I have a handle on this, but I wanted to make sure...
Is the Seymour Duncan '59 (7 string) pretty much like the Dimarzio PAF7? Basically, I want to eventually switch out the pickups in my RG1527 and I'm looking at options that are different than what I already have in my other guitars: UV - Dimarzio Blazes K7 - Dimarzio PAF7's S7 - Seymour Duncan JB/Jazz I was thinking of dual Seymour Duncan '59s in the RG, but I don't know if the bridge will sound OK in a basswood guitar. The site states that the '59 has slightly scooped mids (like the Blaze bridge, which I love in my UV), so it sounds like it would work in a basswood guitar. It also looks like a similar output as the PAF7 (which I love in the K7). Has anyone tried a '59 in the bridge position before (one actually made for the bridge...not a neck version)? I pretty much play anything, so I want versatility. Thanks in advance! |

Dude ,that can be an interesting combination. But i don't like the '59 in Basswood that much..The highs are round and nice ,and the definition is really great. But i am not shure how the Low end would be on a B,Bb or A.It's even not that great on Eb ,or as i tried it on Droped C.
Well try it out. What in Mahogany sounds great can sound in a BAsswood normal to great too!Mike Morton uses them.Maybe u will love it! ![]() |

My only concern would be the fact that most people who have put SD's in 7420's have problems with the legs being two different styles and not fitting

HMM.It can be "floor custom "ordered. So the guys at SD change the baseplate fo the right fit ,without an extra charge.A good dealer can take care on it. Ask www.martinsixstringcustoms.com..He is a great guy and can help you i think.Tell him that i (i have the same screen name on SD forum) recommended him to you.I think he can show you the right way. |

I don't think the '59 would handle the low end well at all... I have one in the neck of my SG and I'm pissed off at it!
It absolutely sucks balls for distorted rhythm! But it's awesome clean and slightly distorted... My be a bit better in the bridge because of the added treble (what it lacks mucho in the neck) but I'd look at an SH-5 7 string instead...
Up the shut fuck, you must.

Thanks guys! Honestly, I wouldn't have thought much about a '59 in the bridge, but I found an auction for 2 new/in box '59s (bridge and neck) that may end at a pretty cheap price. So, that got me thinking...
I'm not concerned about the extra height of the pickup...I've seen how you can remedy that, but if it is not going to handle the low end very well...that's a concern. This guitar is going to be tuned to Bb, so I would obviously need a pickup that can handle that well. Hmmm...maybe back to the drawing board?? |

I really quite liked the 59-7 in mahogony in the neck, really rawk neck pickup tone, bridge possibly something else! Dunno what it's like in basswood, but it has more character than the PAF-7

Ya, I loved the '59 in my Blackjack...but it was mahogany (and a neck pickup). From what I've read, it sounds like it would do well with basswood...isn't basswood supposed to be rather balanced?

Yeah it's balanced ,but looser than mahogany! So i don't know how the bass response could be on basswood!
