Blaze Bridge Users - Question for You All

Does the guage of the low B affect the sound of the blaze bridge? Does it sound muddier with thicker guages?

Im asking because I tried a .52 with an evo and it was muddy as hell. then I put in a .58 and it became clear and tight as ever.

Currently with the blaze bridge and a .58 Im not getting as tight a sound as I would like - could the guage be a problem?

What guages do you guys use with your blaze bridge for the low B/A/etc?

Depending on the scale, anywhere between 54 and 60 should be fine for a B. If new strings with proper tension are giving you a muddy sound, check the pickup height. Failing that, maybe something else in your rig can't handle the low B. It might be time to upgrade that Zoom pedal.

Your right - the Zoom is on its way out - but it might also be the blaze (might have been spoiled with the evo).

Let me get aproper amp and I can try out the pickup height. My old line6 spider was awesome

I would suggest you go in a different direction than a Spider, or your results might not be THAT much better... I love Line 6, but Spiders are not the best.

I would like a smallish amp (bedroom jamming) and might want to go tube. Any ideas?

Epi Valve Jr. and a PODxt? I'm not as familiar with the low-wattage stuff.

I use Dadarrio EXL110-7s. (10-59) on my RG1077XL (which has a 27" scale), and i have the pup sitting a full 1/4" away from the strings to add a little more clarity. If youre having a loose bass / booming bass, try lowering your gain and lowering your pup, thats what i have to do when i use my 7 for Drop A, all i do is lower my gain, and im good to go.

Looking for an Ibanez RG970XL

I use D'Addario .10 - .59's on all my 7's which are all loaded with Blaze's in the Bridge, they're all tuned Drop A & G# & I have no problems with tightness & clarity on any of them at all. although I do use a Maxon Od808 as a clean boost in front of my 5150 which makes a massive difference to the low end.

I found a Fender 85 solid state combo for around $100 on Ebay and its worked fine for years, and handles effects use like a champ. Right now I'm running my Rocktron Metal Planet straight in and the tone is ungodly, and my Digitech DSP 128 sounds really good through the FX loop. If you can find one, I'd go with the 85

*EDIT*

If you're looking for one on Ebay, type in "Fender Eighty Five", you usually get better results with that.

I'm assuming he's going to want to mass produce these rack pies, and why not? I love racks, I love pies, so put them together and you have pie covered titties. - JJ
