![]() | Which pickup to buy?? Please help! I have an ibanez RG1527 prestige, and I hate the way my original ibanez pickups sound. Whenever I would play any non-power chord riff with distortion (minor chords, ala children of bodom and their same-called song) the sound simply seams to ruin itself. Terrible. So far i've had my eye (thats right, EYE - i cant seem find any samples anywhere!) on DiMarzio D Activator 7, recommended by DiMarzio via e-mail. Some people suggested me to buy EMG 707, but so far I haven't heard anything I liked by it (fear factory, Rusty Cooley...). And I also prefer passive pickups. So, what I need is a bridge pickup that sounds great with those "distorted melodic death minor-chordish riffs". Here are the artists who's sounds I like (might help you understand what kind of a sound i want): Alexi Laiho (COB) - especially Hate Crew Deathroll album Jani Liimatainen (Sonata Arctica) - Silence album Jari Mäenpää (Wintersun) Erno "Emppu" Vuorinen (Nightwish) - early albums Aydan (Elvenking) - ONLY the Winter Wake album Hammerfall - ONLY the Legacy Of Kings album Hibria The sounds I dont really like (might help you to understand even better, but NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE): Rusty Cooley Fear Factory John Petrucci - his solo album (dont kill me please )Metallica - past and present Magnus Karlsson - Allen/Lande "The Battle" album, and his band Last Tribe Michael Romeo (Symphony X) - albums V, The odyssey and Paradise lost I'm not sure but it MIGHT be that I prefer PASSIVE pickups more then ACTIVE, according to the artists I mentioned. But It also might be that i never really had a chance to hear an ACTIVE one i liked. So here you go! Any help would be welcome. I thank you all in advance! ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | What's your budget? If we're just talking either DiMarzio or Duncan, there are a ton of clips on this site of various DiMarzio pups, my favorite of which is the Evo and Blaze. If you're willing to pay ~$190 for boutique pickups you can go for Bareknuckles. ![]() |

I'm leaning towards the miracle man as you seem to be looking for a defined sound but with a bit of edge - I think the Warpig 7 may have too much, at least the ceramic version. Yeah. Miracle Man or Warpig. ![]() EDIT : sniped. Bareknuckle if you can afford it, Dimarzio if you can't. AN7 and, oh, Blaze? Last edited by Stitch; 06-16-2007 at 10:55 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

![]() | WOW! Man! Booth Miracle man and Warpig are amazing! I just don't know which one to chose! I kinda like WP more, but, I'm not quite sure if it wil suite my style. It sounds very much death metal, or HC... And btw, I can't seem to find a 7 string version in the BKP shop ![]() EDIT: and also, can anyone explain this option "CALIBRATED"? Does it mean that once I buy a calibrated pickup, I can use it for bridge as well as for neck position?? |

If you want a 7 string BKP just make a note of it when ordering Tim will make any humbucker in a seven string version. Calibrated means the neck and bridge pickup in a set are wound to work very well together in terms of both volume and tone. BKP has bridge and neck models for all their humbuckers.
