Thumbs up Neck Pickup with M7

Finally made the plunge and ordered an M7. Now I am trying to figure out what neck pickup will compliment it nicely.

The guitar housing these pickups is mahogany with a rosewood fretboard. I like a smooth, singing fat lead sound with ample clarity.

I want to try one of the following in the neck position:
D-Activator Bridge
Blaze Custom
Evo

Can you guys please give me your thoughts on these pickups in the neck position as they are not the usual choices. Thank you for your time.

When soloing, I reckon there may be a volume drop out switching between the two pickups due to the output differences

Yes that's a possibility but the pickups you named are really harsh sounding compared to the Jazz...

Something like a Bare Knuckles Cold Sweat might suit you. It's a bit hotter than the Jazz but still with lots of clarity.

Maybe a bit on the clean channel, but on the dirty channel hotter pickups simply push the amp harder. Either way, you're going to set a weaker pickup closer to the strings, so select a pickup based on tone, rather than trying to match output.

Good call Noodles. In that case maybe I will look at the Jazz, Cold Sweat and Air Norton since those have the "tone" I like. Plus getting a neck pickup with an Alnico V is a plus (excluding the Air Norton).

And if you still want the alnico V with an AN, you can order some in the thread that was made about it a while ago.

Just a note if you do order the Cold Sweat make sure you ask for the neck model. They come as a calibrated set. The neck on is Alnico V and has a resistance of about 8.3K. The bridge one is ceramic and has a resisitance of like 14.5K. That's a big difference.

I tell you what, there's almost no way you'd ever want a DA7 bridge for the neck!

That sucker is loud, loud, loud, and there's no bridge pickup that could match up with it.
