Noob question
Can you put an active and a passive pickup in the same guitar?
I'm wondering what would happen if the battery ran out at a bad time, and if I could potentially have say an emg in the bridge spot and a dimarzio or sc in the neck spot. Anyone know? thanks Magnum Opus Datura Salvia Shine On You Crazy Diamond |

Yes, there a guide to it on EMG's website under the FAQ section.

You can but there will be a significant difference in volume unless you get some sort of booster for the passive pickup. Also, if the battery runs out, the pickup simply won't work or at the least have little to no output.

I had an EMG 81 and a Seymour Duncan Screamin Demon in my Ibanez and it sounded pretty damn nice....
Just adding that I know it is doable and it also can sound awesome if wired to prevent the popping sound when the active pickup is switched on. I originally wired the pickups in, back when I had little experience with guitar wiring and I would get a loud POP when I put my selector switch to the EMG>.. a friend fixed it for me. GO FOR IT another cool idea might be to have individual volume controls for each pickup, along with your selector switch... just thought of that as I entered my previous post. Please do let us know where your pickup selection adventures take you. Fun times, Indeed!
