Dual Sound or coil-splitting?
I'm rewiring my Jackson DR7 with D Sonic (bridge) and Air Norton (neck) with 2 push/pull master volumes. So, Dual Sound or coil-splitting? What does dual sound actually do?

By dual sound do you mean parallel?

I know the Dual Sound is the Super Distortion but comes with a switch to do a coil split, but wtf are you talking about?

Actually, the DiMarzio Dual Sound is a Super Distortion with a series/parallel push/pull pot included.

in the wiring diagram for both the d sonic and air norton, it talks about dual sound. i believe it has something to do with parallel but i'm not quite sure. that's why i was asking u fellas.

If it is parallel it will still be hum cancelling, lower output, brighter and clearer sounding than in series.
Split coil uses just one coil to simulate a the sound a single coil pickup. If a humbucker is split is loses it's humcancelling unless you split the other humbucker or use a single coil pickup at the same time. |

Dual sound allows you to wire a two position double pole/double throw (DPDT) switch to allow for series or parallel pickup wiring. Push/pull pots have this type of switch. They only allow for two switching options (such as parallel/series or series/coil-cut). Here is a diagram with the connections, X-X means the switch is connected and O means there is no connection to that wiring tab:
Position 1: X-X O X-X O Position 2: O X-X O X-X On a three position (On-On-On) mini DPDT switch allows for series/coil-cut/parallel wiring at the same time. The switch itself connects something like this: Position 1: X-X O X-X O Position 2: X-X O O X-X Position 3: O X-X O X-X Beware that there is also a three position (on-off-on) DPDT switch. Make sure you get the correct one for your desired use. I strongly recommend Dimarzio switches to AllPart switches, as these are the only two that I have ever used. You get what you pay for and good switches are definitely worth the extra few dollars!!!! I hope this helped you. Last edited by RG1820X; 04-15-2007 at 08:48 PM. Reason: Circuit Display Issue |
