Applying a top?

Ok a question for the resident Luthiers. How do you guys securely apply a top? I'm doing one and I would like some advice before I just start glueing and clamping things.

Thanks

Seth

I'm no luthier, (Yet.) but as far as I know, that's all they do.

You've got your head down
You've got your eyes closed
You look so pitiful now

Your body encrusted with ash
Breath heavy with toxins
Hair singed and matted
Clothes frayed and burnt

You are left with nothing

Make sure both surfaces are planed absolutely smooth to maximize the glue contact area, make sure the surfaces are clean and dry, use a good wood glue (and not too much of it) and lots of clamps.

Applying a veneer (which is paper thin) and applying a top (which is usually 3/8" or thicker) are totally different projects.

Wasn't sure which method was really being asked about.

A lot of people these days use vacuum bags instead of clamps for even pressure all over when applying veneers and stuff.
It would be a bit expensive for a one-off project though.
