WELL, ACCORDING TO DIMARZIO'S EMAIL RESPONSE TO MY QUESTION TO THEM, THE BRIDGE P/U OF MY RG7620 IS CLOSE TO A SUPER DISTORTION, & THE NECK IS CLOSE TO A SUPER 2.

THAT WORKS FOR ME.

Steve's Special and a PAF Pro, IMO.

The Blaze neck reminds me a lot of a PAF Pro, which isn't surprising as that was Vai's pickup of choice when the UVs were created.

The Steve's Special was designed to be a 6 string Blaze bridge from day one, as far as I know.

I had the Steve's Special and it really doesnt resemble the Blaze at all, its way way brighter, 10x the attack the Blaze has. It has a somewhat scooped character like the Blaze but beyond that they sound nothing alike.

I don't know if they have any 6 string pickups which sound like the Blaze, but the Steve's Special and PAF Pro are great choices regardless Chris

Yeah, but despite Dimarzio's email, those aren't Blazes - those are New7's.

The New7/Blaze/Blaze-II thing is one of the most confusing little sagas in the seven string gear world. Near as I can tell, "Blaze" is what Ibanez and Dimarzio initially called the Custom7's which were eventually called the New7's, and Blaze-II is what Ibanez calls the pickup everyone else calls the Blaze. That's best guess.

I'M LESS CONCERNED ABOUT THEM BEING REAL BLAZES OR NOT.
I'M ACTUALLY SATISFIED WITH THEM.

I WAS LOOKING TO MATCH THEIR OUTPUT & EQ CURVE WITH THE SIX STRING SO I COULD SHOP FOR A BRIDGE P/U FOR MY 6 ALONG THOSE LINES.

Hmm, the direction you install the SS changes the sound of it drastically. In one direction it's pretty bright, the other less so. Dunno how exact it is either way, I just know that they based the SS on the Blaze in Petrucci's UV.

Personally, I can't stand the SS, but it's supposed to be the closest.

Yeah that is true, I remember that. Perhaps reversed it would be closer, but I actually think it sounded pretty badass as is. At least it did through the Peavey/Mesa rigs I used at the time.
