How to add grit to a clean channel.

ok i have a crate xt120r, i want to make the clean channel more gritty and beefy. the only problem is the clean channel doesnt have a gain knob on it.
i have a dod fx40b eq pedal but i cant figure out how to move everything around on that. i have a ds-1 for my main distortion. i can make the distortion sound good but the clean channel is to "poppy" if you know what i mean.

please help,

thanks,

If you can't get a dirtier tone from the clean channel, maybe you could try cleaning up your distortion channel. Then turn down the distortion on the DS1 a little. I did this for a while and it worked out fine.

Try using a Tube Screamer or similar overdrive pedal on the clean. It'll add some nice grit while keeping it clear enough so notes are still articulate. Then you can have a few sounds from your amp.

I am the mask you wear.

Um, you're going to hate me...

...but really, if you want a slightly "gritty" clean tone, you want a tube amp beginning to break up.

Barring that, a clean channel with a gain knob - some solid state stuff, particularly Tech-21, does this quite well.

yeah, tube amps are expensive and i dont have any money.
i may save up for a simpleboss overdrive pedal, keep that at a low volume ust to add some gain. then have the distortion and eq for lead.

overdrive pedals do their best work on tubes. when you overdrive a SS amp, you can get some pretty ice-picky squealing. i'd say, if you don't have the dough for a new amp, go for a fuzz pedal, setting the fuzz option very low.

I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways,
we could reverse the particle flow through the gate.
We'll cross the streams.

Yeah, thats pretty much the only way to get that sound -- authentically, anyway.

Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high,
Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie,
Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally.
Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee
Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread
Its branches like a Temple overhead.

Yeah as long as it's a real tube amp, not a Krank or anything. Not all tube amps are expensive btw man. You can get a Mesa Studio .22+ which is one of the best amps in existence for $400. Sell your Crate & some semen and you're in business
